3 Strategies to Pare Travel Costs
By Christopher Elliott

Pinching pennies is a time-honored tradition among many travelers. But it's a practice that's now gaining increasing popularity among an unlikely group: business travelers.

Road warriors long have had rich tastes in travel. Back in the late 1990s, when the economy was white-hot, they routinely bought expensive airline tickets and stayed in pricey hotels while away on business.

April Events You Don’t Want to Miss

Mark your calendars for two informative events IT Solutions will be presenting in April. First, we hope you can join us for Surviving and Thriving in 2009, a unique, non-technical discussion of practical strategies for shoring up your business and getting more out of your assets during these trying economic times. ITS will offer a business-focused overview of our latest product offerings, including off-site Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity, and Secure Server Hosting options. We’ll also provide an overview of Business Intelligence tools that can help you more quickly and accurately manage your numbers and keep better track of the overall health of your business on a regular basis.

The keynote presentation of Surviving and Thriving in 2009 will be delivered by an economic expert who will provide an insightful assessment of the current business climate, as well as what we can expect for the remainder of the year and beyond. This event is an IT Solutions client-only gathering and will be held the week of April 20th (exact date TBA) at The Palm in Center City, Philadelphia. The morning session by ITS will be followed by lunch (like only The Palm can provide) and the keynote presentation.

For our many FileMaker enthusiast clients, we’ll be presenting at The Power of 10 Tour, coming to Philadelphia on April 1st. This exclusive inside look will show you how to get the most out of the new features in the FileMaker 10 product line. Together with your regional FileMaker representatives and certified FileMaker developers from IT Solutions, you’ll:

  • Tour the new features in the product line
  • Do “deep dives” to get a thorough understanding of the features
  • Learn what resources are available to keep you up-to-date

The Power of 10 Tour will be held at the Philadelphia Marriott and Courtyard from 8:30 am to noon on April 1st. Space will be very limited, so register soon at http://www.filemakertrial.com/roadshow/

For additional information on either of these FREE events, and to reserve your seat for Surviving and Thriving in 2009, email Jim Higgins or call 215-886-7166 x 113. We look forward to seeing you in April!

Be Prepared for Anything—Not Just Disaster
reprinted with permission from HP

Most companies spend time anticipating and planning for disasters. But in a global economy, where opportunity and risk go hand-in-hand, other events can be as devastating to the unprepared as any hurricane.

The corporate landscape is dotted with potential landmines that can take a toll on businesses:

  • Skyrocketing energy costs and environmental mandates are forcing cuts in energy consumption.
  • Security audits can distract IT staff if the organization is not sufficiently prepared.
  • E-discovery requests can hijack resources and negatively impact productivity.
  • Loss of key personnel can be a setback if a company doesn’t have a succession plan in place.
  • Lost storage media, like a stolen laptop, can lead to tarnished reputations and lowered revenues if removable media isn't encrypted and digital keys well-managed.
