The Solution
For the computer and networking functions, Resolute considered hiring an in-house IT person, but after considering the administrative and personnel issues, decided to outsource to a team of IT experts with a broader wealth of knowledge than a one-person, in-house technician. Resolute Management selected IT Solutions Consulting Inc. to manage the design and installation of its IT infrastructure for its four locations.
Focused solely on supporting ACE's claims function, it was critical that no matter where its systems were located, they had to effectively interact with ACE. Resolute needed access to many ACE-hosted property and casualty applications to do its job. Most of these systems, ranging from legacy applications to new technologies, were managed by IBM Global Services and ACE employees. IT Solutions had to work closely with IBM and ACE to ensure Resolute had the right access to the appropriate systems.
IT Solutions developed a technical strategy for the new firm including recommendations for hardware, software, firewalls, and everything else they would need. "They went to great effort to educate us on why we needed certain machines and why they were recommending specific technologies," said Minderjhan.
IT Solutions designed the desktops, implemented the security and communication infrastructure and ensured the appropriate backup and disaster recovery solutions were in place. It also provided "lunch and learn sessions" for the firm's employees and helped develop necessary end user communications.
Because ACE is a public company and has tight interaction with Resolute, IT Solutions also collaborated with both companies to make sure that the systems were set up properly to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley.
